VINEBURGH TIME CAPSULE & PAVEMENT INLAYS
Overview
Vineburgh is a residential area in the heart of Irvine and is currently undergoing an extensive programme of regeneration. This new development has provided 81 new homes for Vineburgh residents. Impact Arts ran a series of workshops in the local area, consulting with the community getting ideas for artworks for their environment. The idea of a time capsule emerged during those workshops.
Impact Arts asked Julia to make some tiles with children from the area for the front of the planter where the time capsule is buried. The children made tiles around the theme of 'old and new', for example, an old gramophone and a new ipod.
Julia made porcelain monoblocks with inlaid drawings, taking ideas suggested by local residents at consultation sessions, relating to Vineburgh and residents chose their favourites which were installed outside their new houses.
